Free 30 minutes with Greg Hostelley, CPA

Your biggest expense is the one nobody manages.

For most HVAC owners, tax is the largest check the business writes all year, and it is the only one nobody plans. That money is what buys the salesperson, the service manager, the general manager, the technology system, and the business that finally runs without you. Thirty minutes with Greg and you will know which of the twelve places it hides are live in your business, and roughly what they are worth.

Who this is for

If you write a check to the IRS every year, this was built for you.

If you pay yourself out of your business, or run anything personal through it, and you write that check every year, this is the call. Built for HVAC owners. Residential, commercial, or both.

The call

Thirty minutes. Here is what happens in them.

Why almost nobody is doing this for you

Filing and planning are two different jobs.

Filing looks backward. It reports a year that already happened, accurately and on time, and that is what your accountant was hired for. Planning looks forward. It changes the number before the year produces it, and it has to happen while the year is still open.

What a tax preparer does

  • Looks backward at a year that already happened
  • Reports the number the year produced
  • Sees your figures in February, when nothing can change
  • Is buried with four hundred returns during the only window that matters

What a strategist does

  • Looks forward at how the business is built
  • Changes the number before the year produces it
  • Works in September and October, while decisions are live
  • Briefs your accountant so he keeps filing and you keep him

Here is the test. Call your accountant today and ask him to do a proactive review of your business before year end. Most will not have the time. Many will not want the work, because understanding how your company actually runs is not what the job is built around.

On the record

What it looks like when somebody finally plans.

Twenty two years,
and the business sold

We began working with an HVAC company in 2004. Over those years the work was the same work we are describing here, done every year before the year closed. This year the owner sold the company to a buyer who is now a client of ours as well, and we are running the exit tax planning for the sellers right now. That is what this looks like when somebody does it for two decades instead of one year.

Mid forties → high twenties

A manufacturing client came to us in 2011 with disorganized books, an open IRS liability, and a prior firm whose answer was that he would have to live with it. We amended the prior return and recovered more than $10,000 across federal and state. Then we rebuilt the structure underneath the business, and within two years his effective rate had fallen from the mid forties to the high twenties.

One adjustment,
no penalties

The IRS examined the open years at a family asphalt and concrete company we have served since 1995. It closed with a single adjustment and no penalties. Every strategy we put in front of you is one we have already defended.

Managing Principal of Inner Circle Advisors, forty years on the owner's side of the table, and a Certified Value Builder, which is the methodology for what a business is actually worth when somebody comes to buy it. That matters here, because the point of keeping the money is not the money. It is what you build with it and what it is worth when you are done. He takes these calls himself. You are not getting a junior associate with a script.
